Innovative Stragety in a Tough Economy

Many companies today are cutting discretionary costs in a knee jerk response to the economic downturn.  From Gallup specialists to Wharton consultants, all the experts agree: this short term fix comes at the expense of long term profitability.

You would never drive through a dark tunnel with your lights off, would you?  Same concept applies here.  Neglecting employee development to meet quarterly goals while asking them to do more with less is unrealistic and discourages performance.  Nothing could be more detrimental to the competitive edge that you fought for and that makes you noticeably different.  Down-time is a great time to focus on what really matters: your employees’ skills and stamina.

Companies that engage their employees grow earnings 2.6 times faster than those who don't, Gallup informs us.  Engaged workgroups are more productive, profitable and deliver superior customer outcomes.  They have 62% fewer accidents, 51% less theft and breakage, 51% lower turnover, 27% lower absenteeism and are more resilient to stress.  Now that's a sound cost cutting strategy!

When facing a downturn, you need your people more competitive than before.  You need them willing and able to accomplish a lot of work; you want their creativity and innovation capacity stimulated.  You can't have them physically and psychologically depleted.

At Optimal Living, we combine the sciences of management, positive psychology, fitness, nutrition and neuroscience to help you lessen managerial issues and increase productivity.  Consider a few things:

 -  Mental stamina is a variable - not a constant – and is understood through neurobiology.

  - Mind and body are physically connected.  The brain is the key organ determining productivity, and it works best when the body functions are also optimal.

  - Your strengths are what make you competitive.  They are your best contribution to anything you do.  Trying to fix weaknesses is a failing strategy – building on what works is more productive.

  - Self-Regulation is the most wanted but least often displayed strength in North America.  Learning how to manage it and building its capacity will impact your results.

Optimal Living can show you how to integrate all these strategies in your organization.  If you want more performance, fulfillment and balance, you are in the right place.
